Garth Brooks remembered late former President Jimmy Carter with a tribute he posted on Monday (December 30). Carter died on Sunday (December 29) at his home in Georgia. He was 100. He lost his wife of nearly eight decades, Rosalynn Carter, last year. She was 96.

“President Carter, the legacy you and Rosalynn have left us is as beautiful as the life you lived,” Brooks wrote in his tribute on Instagram, along with a photo from a Habitat for Humanity build. “Thank you for your lifetime of service to our country and the world. You inspired us not just by what you said, but by what you built. We love you.”

Brooks and his wife, fellow country star Trisha Yearwood, paid tribute to Carter on his 100th birthday earlier this year. Yearwood mourned the former president’s loss in a post on Sunday, writing that the Carters’ “legacy of love will live forever.” Yearwood’s post honoring Carter also included snapshots working on a Habitat for Humanity home. The Carters frequently volunteered and launched Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in the mid-1980s, according to Habitat for Humanity. The nonprofit organization’s CEO said in a statement, in part, that “we are grateful for the incredible impact the Carters have had on Habitat and on the families who have benefited from their shining example.”

Carter’s funeral will be held at Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, January 9.
