Russell Dickerson brings his signature ā€œinfectious energy to life in a vibrant, over-the-top celebrationā€ in the new music video he premiered on Wednesday (July 16).

Dickerson debuted the visual for ā€œHappen To Me,ā€ the single he released earlier this year with a clever nod to Cyndi Lauper’s iconic 80s anthem, ā€œGirls Just Wanna Have Fun.ā€ Daniella Mason directed the music video, which follows Dickerson as he ā€œleads a high-spirited crowd through the streets, kicking things off with a full marching band and breakout dance moments that turn every spot into a pop-up dance floor,ā€ reads a press release issued to announce the premiere on Wednesday. The video also includes the now-viral TikTok choreography, and ends with a dance party in a bar with colorful Christmas lights glowing on the ceiling.

ā€œā€˜Happen To Me’ is all about dancing through heartbreak,ā€ Dickerson said in a statement when he released the song, which he wrote with Chase McGill,Ā Jessie Jo DillonĀ andĀ Chris LaCorte. ā€œWhen we first started writing, I thought, ā€˜What’s a song that makes every girl want to get up and dance when it plays?’ So we kicked off the chorus with ā€˜Girls just want to have fun,’ and kept building from there.ā€

ā€œHappen To Meā€ appears on Dickerson’s upcoming album, Famous Back Home. The 12-track project is due to release on August 22. Watch the new music video here:
