Before Chris Young was known for smash-hit anthems like “Famous Friends,” “I’m Comin’ Over,” “Aw Naw” and others throughout his decades-long career, he was a breakdancer.

Young’s mom, Becky Harris, was the latest guest on Got It From My Momma, a podcast that features stories from mothers of famous artists (previous guests include Luke Bryan's momma and his wife, Dustin Lynch's mom, Thomas Rhett's mom, Lauren Alaina's mom, Kelsea Ballerini's mom and more). Harris spoke with host Jennifer Vickery Smith about her son, including his former gig as a breakdancer in the heart of the honky tonks on Lower Broadway in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

“He used to breakdance on Second Avenue,” Harris said of her now-superstar son. She added that Young “made as much in tips breakdancing as he did one year during CMA Fest singing. He was about 16 that year. ...He’d play during the day — I’d book him to play in those little bars up and down Broadway — and he’d play for tips, and then he’d come home, change his clothes and go back and breakdance at night, and people didn’t even realize it was the same guy.”

“As a single mom, Becky Harris raised two kids- one of whom has had tremendous success in country music! Chris Young has more than a dozen #1s since winning Nashville Star 16 years ago. Becky is a respected music business manager, a cookbook author, competitive ballroom dancer, and as you’ll hear- great story teller! Enjoy this episode with RCA recording artist Chris Young’s momma!”
